Product Background Changer: Keep the SKU, Change Only the Field

Upload one real product, keep shape and label, and change only the field. White, studio, marble, wood, and shelf are different files. Not a transparent PNG.

Product Background Changer: Keep the SKU, Change Only the Field

A product background changer is an edit, not a new product. Upload the real item. Keep shape, color, label, and logo. Change only the field: pure white, studio gray, marble, wood table, or lifestyle shelf. The result is not a transparent PNG cutout, and it is not an Amazon main image until you inspect edges and type. ChatGPT Images 2.5, launched 8 September 2026, is stronger at keeping a subject from a reference photo. Google’s Nano Banana 2.1 model card, updated 6 October 2026, lists subject consistency among the gains. FreeGPTImg is a GPT Image 2 workspace: 20 daily free credits, no credit card required. Overlay real words last.

Draft the still in FreeGPTImg. Run the upload-and-replace pass in the product background changer, lock a listing-style white field in the white-background product photo tool, stage one in-use crop with the lifestyle product photo generator, keep materials honest in AI product photography, cut a marketplace crop in the Amazon product photo generator, change only the field from a locked hero in image to image, and stay on GPT Image 2 when that is the label on the screen.

What the job actually is

The file you already have is the SKU. The background is scenery. If the bottle gains a new cap, a new flavor stripe, or a second product, you did not change the field. You rolled a cousin.

OpenAI’s image-generation docs let API users set background to transparent, opaque, or auto. Transparent output needs PNG or WebP. JPEG cannot keep an alpha channel. For gpt-image-2.5-flare and gpt-image-2.5-sunburst, opaque and transparent are both supported. For gpt-image-2, transparency is still documented as preview. That is useful for campaign cutouts and stickers. It is the wrong export for a marketplace main image.

Amazon’s product image guide still treats the main image as a realistic photo of the item you sell, on a pure white field, without extra graphics or type. A marble slab, a wood table, and a lifestyle shelf can sit in the gallery or in ads. They do not replace MAIN.

FreeGPTImg currently exposes GPT Image 2 on this loop. Write the name on the screen into the filename. Do not stamp a 2.5 or 2.1 badge on a GPT Image 2 file.

Name the field before you generate

Weak files fail because they ask for white, lifestyle, a sale badge, and a transparent PNG in one pass. Pick one job.

Job What you export Keep Change one thing Wrong move
Pure white listing field One SKU on visible white, even light Shape, color, label, logo, pack size Background only Extra props, type, a second SKU
Studio gray catalog Same SKU, soft gray sweep The upload, same materials Backdrop tone only New packaging, fake reflections of extra products
Marble or wood surface Same SKU on one named surface Label and silhouette Surface only Food, flowers, or jewelry you do not sell
Lifestyle shelf Same SKU in a quiet room crop The hero object Scene only People, pets, unread books with invented titles
Campaign cutout Isolated subject for later layouts The object Empty field, then composite in an editor Uploading alpha as Amazon MAIN
Seasonal ad still Same SKU, empty offer band The product Atmosphere only Prices, “50% OFF,” copyrighted holiday mascots

Pure white and transparent are not the same file. White is an opaque field shoppers can see in a search grid. Transparent is an alpha channel you composite later. The product background changer on FreeGPTImg is AI editing. It does not promise pixel-perfect RGBA.

Leave prices, ratings, and headlines empty if those words must be exact. Models still invent letters. Overlay in an editor after the SKU matches the upload.

Clean generation workflow

Use the same sequence in the product background changer, a GPT Image 2 tab, ChatGPT Images 2.5, or a Gemini 2.1 session. The rule is the lock, not the logo on the chat.

  1. Upload the real product. Front-of-pack, complete object, readable label. A tiny crop, a screenshot of a competitor, or a photo of three SKUs is the wrong source.
  2. Write five lines. SKU identity (shape, color, label words you must keep), the one field (white / gray / marble / wood / shelf), crop, model name on the screen, and “no type.”
  3. Write keep / change / do-not. Keep the upload. Change only the field. Do not add a second product, a logo you do not own, a person, or a price.
  4. Optional look reference is look only. Lighting, surface, and mood may come from a second image. The product, logo, and packaging still come from the upload. Do not paste someone else’s listing as the hero.
  5. Generate three options on the same crop. Switching from 1:1 white to 16:9 lifestyle between option A and option B is a new job.
  6. Inspect at 100%. Check melted labels, shifted logos, extra caps, haloed edges, a fake checkerboard, and unreadably invented type.
  7. Route the file. White listing field, gallery lifestyle, and campaign overlay are three downloads. Do not reuse one JPEG for all three.
  8. Overlay real words last. Offer, date, and URL never belong in the generator if they must be exact.

If you are on Gemini, 2.1 can take multiple reference stills. Use them as the same SKU from useful angles, not as a moodboard of other brands. This job is one object.

Prompt formula

Product background change, not a new SKU and not a transparent PNG promise.
Model: [GPT Image 2 / ChatGPT Images 2.5 / Nano Banana 2.1 / name on screen].
Source: uploaded photo of [one real product, pack size, label color].
Keep: exact silhouette, materials, label layout, logo, cap, and colorway.
Change only: background to [pure white ecommerce field / studio gray sweep / marble surface / wood table / quiet lifestyle shelf].
Crop: [1:1 / 3:4 / 16:9], product large in frame, even light.
Text in image: none. Empty price and headline bands.
Do not add: extra products, people, pets, fake certifications, watermarks, sale badges, copyrighted characters, scenery not named above.

Prompt examples

Pure white field from a locked upload

Keep this exact matte ceramic pour-over kettle, brushed steel handle, true product color, same spout and logo.
Replace only the background with a pure white ecommerce field and a short realistic contact shadow.
Square 1:1, kettle large in frame, even studio light.
No table texture, no extra kitchen tools, no steam, no type.
Do not change the handle finish or invent a second kettle.

Studio gray, same SKU

Keep this exact kettle from the upload.
Change only the backdrop to a clean studio gray sweep, soft gradient, premium catalog light.
No marble, no plants, no price tag.
Empty labels. Same silhouette.

Lifestyle shelf, empty type

Keep this exact kettle. Change only the scene to a quiet oak shelf, one linen cloth, morning window light from the left.
No people, no unread book titles, no other brands.
Product remains the hero. Empty caption band.
Do not restyle the kettle.

Image-to-image, one noun

Image-to-image: keep this exact product, label, and cap color.
Change only the background to [pure white / wood table].
Do not add type, props, or a second SKU.

Review the pixels before you upload

Zoom to 100%. A thumbnail hides a melted barcode.

  • SKU honesty. Same silhouette, colorway, pack size, and label. If a shopper would think it is a different flavor, discard it.
  • Field honesty. White looks white, not beige paper. Marble is marble, not a busy kitchen. One named surface.
  • Empty type. Prices, stars, “new,” and URLs stay out of the pixels.
  • Edge honesty. No halo, no leftover studio sweep pretending to be alpha, no checkerboard baked in.
  • Rights honesty. Your product. No competitor packaging, no celebrity hands, no copyrighted holiday mascot.
  • Route honesty. MAIN, gallery, ad, and cutout are different files. Amazon’s main-image rules still want a realistic product on pure white, not a lifestyle shelf.

Limitations you should not skip

FreeGPTImg is a GPT Image 2 workspace with 20 daily free credits and no credit card required. The product background changer is AI editing. That is not a claim that FreeGPTImg runs ChatGPT Images 2.5 or gemini-nano-banana-2.1, that every edge will be production-ready, that you own commercial rights in every territory, or that a marketplace will accept the file. Match the label on the page you opened.

Do not promise a pixel-perfect transparent PNG from this tool. OpenAI’s API can request background: transparent on supported GPT Image models, with PNG or WebP output; gpt-image-2 transparency is still preview. Composite campaign assets in an editor after you like the silhouette.

Do not upload a changed-background still as Amazon MAIN because the grid looked clean at 200 pixels. Read Amazon’s product image guide for the category you sell. Leave type off MAIN. Keep lifestyle and sale treatments for other slots.

Models still invent extra objects when you ask for “more premium,” “gift-ready,” or “complete the kitchen.” Shorten the brief. One SKU. One field.

FAQ

Is a product background changer the same as a background remover?

No. A remover tries to isolate the subject and leave alpha. A changer replaces the field with a named scene and keeps the product. FreeGPTImg’s product background changer does not promise a pixel-perfect transparent PNG.

Can I use the white result as an Amazon main image?

Only after you inspect it against Amazon’s product image guide. MAIN still wants a realistic photo of the item you sell, on a pure white field, without extra graphics or type. A marble or shelf still belongs in the gallery. AI output is a draft until a person checks it.

Should I ask the model for the price and the headline?

No, not if those words must be exact. Leave price and headline bands empty. Overlay the real offer in an editor after the SKU matches the upload.

Does FreeGPTImg run GPT Image 2.5 or Nano Banana 2.1?

Use the label on the page you opened. FreeGPTImg currently exposes GPT Image 2 on this loop. Write that name into the file. Do not stamp a 2.5 or 2.1 badge because a docs page used that id.

Why did the label change after I changed the background?

The prompt asked for “more premium,” “a full lifestyle scene,” or “recreate the product.” Shorten it. Keep this exact upload. Change only the field. Generate again from the same source photo.

Can I use someone else’s listing photo as the upload?

Do not. Upload a photo you have the right to use. A competitor pack shot is not a reference look. Look references, if you use them, control lighting and surface only.

Change one field on FreeGPTImg

Write five lines: the real SKU, the one field, the crop, the model name on the screen, and empty type. Open FreeGPTImg, upload in the product background changer, lock listing white in the white-background product photo tool, stage one shelf crop in the lifestyle product photo generator, keep materials honest in AI product photography, cut a marketplace version in the Amazon product photo generator, change only the field in image to image, and stay on GPT Image 2 when that is the loop in front of you. Download the image. Overlay the real offer last.
