Etsy Listing Photo: Keep the SKU, Skip the Fake Table

Upload one real handmade photo. Keep the SKU. Warm light is fine. A fake rustic table, extra props, or a listing approval is not.

Etsy Listing Photo: Keep the SKU, Skip the Fake Table

An Etsy listing photo is a keep-the-object pass, not a new handmade SKU. Upload a photo you took of the item you sell. Keep shape, color, material, stitching, glaze, engraving, and the crop of that object. Change only light, backdrop, or one quiet surface. The result is not a stock rendering, not a transparent PNG, and not an Etsy approval. Etsy’s Seller Policy asks for your own photographs of the actual item, not stock photos, artistic renderings, or pictures copied from other shops. Help Center image guidance currently prefers listing photos at least 2000 pixels on a side, a first photo that is landscape or square, and no transparent PNG (transparency turns black). OpenAI’s image-prompting guide says to start from the image you need, name what stays, change one thing, and inspect. ChatGPT Images 2.5, launched 8 September 2026, is stronger at keeping a subject from a reference photo. Google’s Nano Banana 2.1 model page, dated 6 October 2026, lists subject consistency and 1K, 2K, and 4K output. FreeGPTImg is a GPT Image 2 workspace: 20 daily free credits, no credit card required. Overlay real words last.

Draft in FreeGPTImg. Run the listing pass in the Etsy product photo generator, keep a quiet in-use still in the lifestyle product photo generator, leave opaque white for a different job on the white-background product photo tool, keep materials honest in AI product photography, change one noun from a locked hero in image to image, send a catalog field to the product background changer, and stay on GPT Image 2 when that is the label on the screen.

What the job actually is

The file you already have is the SKU. The table is scenery. If the mug gains a new glaze, a second candle appears “for warmth,” a linen runner implies a bundle you do not ship, or a rustic farmhouse table is invented from text with no upload, you did not make an Etsy listing still. You rolled a cousin, or you mixed two jobs.

Etsy’s Seller Policy is blunt: listings need your own photographs or video of the item, not stock, not artistic renderings, not photos other sellers already used. Seller Handbook copy on accurate listing photos recommends that the first image show the physical item the buyer will receive, not a mockup. Personalized goods are stricter: the first image should be a finished customized piece, not a blank with “Your Text Here.” Read the live policy pages for the shop you run. AI output is a draft until a person checks it against the object in the box.

Krea 3, released 15 October 2026, is an editing model. The public post says most edits come back in under 8 seconds at native 2K, at $0.06 per 2K image on Krea, with up to six reference images, and that it leaves alone what you did not ask it to touch. Those numbers are Krea’s, measured on Krea. They are not a speed claim for FreeGPTImg, and they are not a promise that FreeGPTImg runs Krea 3. The useful part is the lock: keep the object, change the surface.

OpenAI’s Image API still splits generations from edits. Edits start from an image you already trust. The prompting guide is blunt: identify what should change and what must stay the same, refine one thing at a time, inspect the result. GPT Image 2.5 Flare and Sunburst are documented as stronger at precise editing and subject preservation than GPT Image 2. FreeGPTImg currently exposes GPT Image 2 on this loop. Write the name on the screen into the filename. Do not stamp a 2.5, 2.1, or Krea 3 badge on a GPT Image 2 file.

Name the slot before you generate

Weak files fail because they ask for a farmhouse table, a pure white Amazon MAIN, a sale badge, and a transparent PNG in one pass. Pick one job.

Job What you export Keep Change one thing Wrong move
Etsy listing main One real SKU, warm even light, simple surface, product easy to inspect Shape, color, material, stitch, glaze, engraving Light and a quiet backdrop Fake rustic table from text, extra SKUs, invented print
Handmade lifestyle still Same SKU in one believable home, desk, shelf, or craft scene The upload Scene only Props that look included, a second product “for scale” you do not sell
Material / texture detail Same SKU, closer crop of grain, stitch, glaze, or finding The upload Distance only A new weave, a restored hallmark that was not readable
Opaque white catalog Different file, different tool The SKU Backdrop to opaque white Uploading that white file as Etsy “handmade enough” without checking the object
Transparent cutout Different file, different tool The SKU Alpha Uploading transparency to Etsy; Help Center says transparent PNG areas turn black
Social ad still Different file after the listing still is honest The SKU Empty overlay, then type in an editor Baking a price or “handmade” headline into the pixels

Leave prices, ratings, and headlines empty if those words must be exact. Models still invent letters. Overlay in an editor after the SKU matches the upload.

Lock the crop before you generate. Etsy Help currently recommends a first listing photo that is landscape or square, with extra border so thumbnails can crop without losing the object, and listing images around 2000 pixels or more on a side. A 1:1 search tile and a 3:4 later slot are different jobs. Do not switch aspect between option A and option B.

Clean generation workflow

Use the same sequence in the Etsy product photo generator, a GPT Image 2 tab, ChatGPT Images 2.5, a Gemini session, or a Krea 3 editor. The rule is the lock, not the logo on the chat.

  1. Upload a photo you took of the real item. Complete object, readable material, already close to the crop you will publish. A competitor listing, a print-on-demand mockup, a three-SKU table dump, or a tiny thumbnail is the wrong source.
  2. Write five lines. SKU identity (shape, color, material, any words on the object), the one surface (linen, oak, pale wall — pick one), crop, model name on the screen, and “no type.”
  3. Write keep / change / do-not. Keep the upload, including silhouette, glaze, stitch, and findings. Change only light and one quiet surface. Do not add a second product, a logo you do not own, a person unless the job is on-model, or a price.
  4. Optional look reference is look only. A second image may show how warm the window light should feel. The object, logo, packaging, and crop still come from the upload. Do not paste someone else’s Etsy thumbnail as the hero. Krea’s post says to name what each reference is for when you use more than one. Keep that habit even if you only have one product file.
  5. Generate three options on the same crop. Switching from 1:1 listing main to 3:4 lifestyle between option A and option B is a new job.
  6. Inspect at 100%, then at phone width. Check melted glaze, shifted findings, extra candles, linen that looks included, fake wood grain covering the base, and unreadably invented type. If it fails at 400 pixels, it fails in search.
  7. Route the file. Listing main, lifestyle, detail, white catalog, cutout, and ad still are different downloads. Do not reuse one JPEG for all six.
  8. Overlay real words last. Personalization preview, price, and URL never belong in the generator if they must be exact. If the listing is customized, the first image still needs a finished example of the real item, not placeholder text.

If you are on Gemini, treat extra reference stills as the same SKU from useful angles, not as a moodboard of other shops. Google’s Nano Banana 2.1 docs describe multi-image fusion with a documented object-fidelity band. This job is still one object and one surface.

Prompt formula

Etsy listing photo only, not a new SKU, not a fake rustic table, not a transparent PNG, not a marketplace approval.
Model: [GPT Image 2 / ChatGPT Images 2.5 / Nano Banana 2.1 / Krea 3 / name on screen].
Source: uploaded photo I took of [one real handmade or vintage item, material, size].
Keep: exact silhouette, materials, color, stitch or glaze, findings, label, and object crop.
Change only: [one quiet surface and even natural light], commercial composition, product still large and inspectable.
Text in image: none. Empty price, headline, badge, watermark, and marketplace chrome.
Do not add: extra products, fake certifications, sale stickers, copyrighted characters, restored letters that were not readable, a farmhouse table invented from text.

Prompt examples

Listing main from a locked upload

Keep this exact speckled stoneware mug, true glaze, same handle, same unglazed foot ring.
Set it on a pale linen square with even window light. Product large and centered.
No second mug, no spoon “for lifestyle,” no type. 1:1. Not a transparent PNG.
Do not invent a new glaze or rewrite the stamp on the base.

Quiet shelf still, same SKU

Keep this exact 4 oz soy candle, true amber jar, true black lid, true label layout.
Place it on a light oak shelf with a blank wall behind it. Quiet daylight.
No extra candles, no matches that look included, no “hand poured” headline.
If print was unreadable in the upload, leave it soft. Do not restore letters.

Material detail, then stop

Keep this exact vegetable-tanned leather card case, same stitch color, same edge paint, same scuffs that are on the piece I sell.
Move in for a texture crop. Even light. No logo you invent, no size overlay, no second colorway.
Empty labels. Same leather. Not a new SKU.

Image-to-image, one noun: surface

Image-to-image: keep this exact product, material, findings, and object crop.
Change only the surface to a pale plaster wall with even daylight. Product remains the hero.
Do not add type, a second SKU, or a farmhouse table.

Review the pixels before you upload

Zoom to 100%. A thumbnail hides a swapped finding.

  • SKU honesty. Same silhouette, colorway, material, and pack size. If a shopper would think it is a different glaze or a different leather, discard it.
  • Handmade honesty. Warm light is fine. A table, runner, dried flower, or gift box that is not in the listing looks like a bundle you do not sell.
  • Source honesty. Start from a photo you have the right to use. Etsy’s Seller Policy still contrasts your own photographs with stock, renderings, and other sellers’ pictures. A competitor thumbnail is not a lighting reference.
  • Type honesty. Prices, stars, “handmade,” and URLs stay out of the pixels. Existing stamp or label words must match the object you ship. Personalized listings need a finished example in the first slot, not “Your Text Here.”
  • Restore honesty. Blur that hid letters cannot become a new hallmark or a new legal claim. If the print was unreadable, reshoot or overlay the real line in an editor.
  • File honesty. Help Center currently lists jpg, gif, png, svg, and heic, and says transparent PNG areas turn black. Do not upload a cutout and hope the checkerboard survives. Convert to sRGB if color shifts after upload.
  • Route honesty. Listing main, lifestyle, detail, white catalog, and ad still are different files. An Amazon-style pure white MAIN is a different marketplace job.

Limitations you should not skip

FreeGPTImg is a GPT Image 2 workspace with 20 daily free credits and no credit card required. The Etsy product photo generator is AI editing. That is not a claim that FreeGPTImg runs ChatGPT Images 2.5, Krea 3, or gemini-nano-banana-2.1, that every kitchen snap becomes a legal listing image, that missing print will be recovered, that you own commercial rights in every territory, or that Etsy will accept the file. Match the label on the page you opened.

OpenAI’s current Image API documents recommended sizes at 1024×1024, 1536×1024, and 1024×1536, with custom WIDTHxHEIGHT strings whose edges are multiples of 16, aspect between 1:3 and 3:1, neither edge above 3840 pixels, and a total pixel count up to 8,294,400 (4K). Resolutions above 2560×1440 are experimental. Transparent PNG or WebP is a different export (background: "transparent"). Keep it off this loop. If you later need more than 2000 pixels on a side for Etsy’s listing recommendation, upscale in a separate pass after the SKU matches.

Do not upload a generated cousin because the mug looks “more handmade” at 200 pixels. Read Etsy’s Seller Policy and the live listing-image pages for the shop you run. Leave type off the still. Keep sale treatments for ads.

Models still invent extra objects when you ask for “more rustic,” “gift-ready,” or “cottagecore.” Shorten the brief. One SKU. One surface.

If the item itself was made with generative AI, that is a listing disclosure question on Etsy’s Seller Policy, not a photo-edit trick. Do not hide it in the pixels.

Krea’s published speed and price are useful context for why keep-the-product edits are the current job. They are not a ranking of FreeGPTImg. If the screen says GPT Image 2, the file is GPT Image 2.

FAQ

Is an Etsy listing still the same as a lifestyle product photo?

No. A listing main still has to let a shopper inspect the object in a thumbnail. A lifestyle still puts the same SKU in one in-use room. Those are different downloads. FreeGPTImg’s Etsy product photo generator does not promise a pure white MAIN image or a pixel-perfect transparent PNG.

Can I generate the mug from text if I do not want to photograph it?

Not for this job. Etsy’s Seller Policy asks for your own photographs of the actual item, not stock or artistic renderings. Generate from text when you are exploring a look. Edit when the SKU in the upload is already correct and you only need light or a quiet surface. Do not do both in one prompt.

Does FreeGPTImg run Krea 3, GPT Image 2.5, or Nano Banana 2.1?

Use the label on the page you opened. FreeGPTImg currently exposes GPT Image 2 on this loop. Write that name into the file. Do not stamp a Krea 3, 2.5, or 2.1 badge because a docs page used that id.

Can I drop a person into the frame?

Only if on-model is the job, you have the right to use that likeness, and you inspect hands, fit, and extra logos. A listing still does not require a person. A random “happy customer” is a new subject, not scenery.

Can I use a print-on-demand mockup as the first listing image?

Treat mockups as later slots unless the live Etsy page for your category says otherwise. Seller Handbook copy on accurate photos still recommends that the first image show the physical item the buyer will receive. Personalized goods need a finished customized example in that first slot.

Can I listing-photo someone else’s Etsy thumbnail?

Do not. Upload a photo you have the right to use. Another shop’s pack shot is not a lighting reference. Look references, if you use them, control finish only.

Make one Etsy listing still on FreeGPTImg

Write five lines: the real SKU, one quiet surface, the crop, the model name on the screen, and empty type. Open FreeGPTImg, upload in the Etsy product photo generator, keep an in-use scene in the lifestyle product photo generator, leave opaque white on the white-background product photo tool, keep materials honest in AI product photography, polish from a locked hero in image to image, send catalog fields to the product background changer, and stay on GPT Image 2 when that is the loop in front of you. Download the image. Overlay the real offer last.
